RCB needs to step up their game ahead of monday clash

The Royal Challengers Bangalore have a problem- they can’t win important matches. The team has been plagued by injuries and losses to such an extent that skipper Kohli has become a butt of jokes on social media. Memes about him lifting the IPL trophy have finally started to do the rounds and while it seems fun, it is evident that RCB isn’t really in top shape. With one of the most formidable batting line ups in the world, including players like Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers, the team shines in a few moments, only to lose momentum later.

Their match against the top ranking Sunrisers Hyderabad will prove crucial for their game this year. Out of 8 teams playing the tournament, it is ranked at number 6, less to its own credit and more because of the below-average performance of its Delhi Daredevils and Rajasthan Royals. All three teams have 6 points, with the different in net run rate helping Bangalore barely survive.

When it comes to Hyderabad, you see a balanced team with a settled line-up. Their players do their best efforts and play for the team, a big decision-making factor in their top rankings. They have had very close encounters in 2016 and 2017. In this season, Bangalore looks biased towards batsmen while Hyderabad has a strong bowling attack as well as good batting. They have won all four of their past 4 matches and three included great performances by their bowlers. They have traditionally been a bowling-heavy team and with their performance enhancing each year, it is unlikely that things will ever change.

For Kohli’s team, this could mean trouble as they don’t have a fearful bowling lineup. Their batsmen spark and shine for a few moments, before eventually giving up their wicket. It is also noticed that the captain has to stand alone and take the entire responsibility of the team, whether batting or bowling, highly disappointed.

But he is one of the people being blamed for the losses and the reasons are evident. Their team selection is quite contradictory. The entire team relies on de Villiers and Kohli’s batting and once they fall, everybody else does too. Even Quinton de Kock and Brendon McCullum are very inconsistent. Gayle, who was released, is playing remarkably well in Kings XI Punjab while he bats and even fields much better.

Parthiv Patel, could have been chosen for the team earlier. The player has potential but is regularly overlooked. Chahal and Yadav has had a few moments, but they aren’t exactly the kind of bowlers this team desperately needs.

The two contradictory teams will meet on Monday at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. This highly anticipated contest will mean more than just a win for Bangalore- it will be one of the last chances of survival in the league. For Sunrisers, a loss may not mean much, considering they are the leaders of the pack but they would love to mitigate Kohli’s chances of entering the playoffs.

The home team would also like to address their batting concerns, especially as Manish Pandey, their man for the job, hasn’t performed that well in the past matches.
