Kolkata Knight Riders is not a weak team, but this season, they have been caught up in the storm. They have struggled in some departments, which has often landed them in trouble. However, they are still on the fourth spot in the points table. If the team gets it game together, it could not only save its spot but also leave the third spot holders, Kings XI Punjab behind.
Their biggest threat at the moment of the fifth spot holder and defending champion Mumbai Indians. The team has recently gotten its mojo back and they will be fighting for pride now. As Sunrisers Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings looks relatively safe in their top two spots, it is likely that changes could be made to Kings XI and KKR if Mumbai and Rajasthan play well.
The records are not in favor of KKR as they have lost 17 out of the 18 matches they have played with the Indians. This is not all, the team has lost 6 out of 8 matches on their home ground, Eden Gardens. They will have to win all the games from now on to ensure that no one gets ahead of them for a playoff spot. In such desperate times, the team has one savior- Chris Lynn.
His batting style is best described as destructive. One of his finest knocks came in last year’s tournament, playing against the Gujarat Lions. The team had a 184-run target, which they managed within 15 overs, thanks to his great performance as all the wickets remained intact. He was criticized by many for his form. The player, who had managed some big knocks in the Big Bash League of Australia was struggling in the subcontinent and most people thought he was a bad pick for the IPL.
His story has since been full of ups and downs. After a fantastic match against Gujarat, he hurt his left shoulder. He later tweeted, “Dear Cricket Gods, have I done something wrong?”
His tweets describe his IPL career. Though he is one of the most promising players around, his performance has been dwindling and his time often cut short by injuries. His shoulder issues have hampered the prospects of the teams he plays for, whether domestic or international. But that doesn’t mean that Lynn can’t do well.
When he strikes, he is nothing short of a lightning storm. KKR, surprisingly, doesn’t look as affected by his injuries as his other teams. Robin Uthappa and Sunil Narine have done a good job for them. However, with Lynn hitting well, the team gets more strength, specially as they are moving into more crucial aspects of the game. They have allowed him to settle down and take his time but this is the right time for the explosive batsmen to finally reveal why opponent bowlers are afraid of him.
KKR will be facing Mumbai Indians to maintain their fourth spot in the points table and remain in the race for playoffs. They have more pressure to perform since they lost to the Indians two days ago.
