Christian Fuchs, the big defender at Leicester City, has officially announced that he will part ways with Leicester City, at the expiry of his contract. By next season, he will be playing his last at the King Power Stadium and return to his family in New York.
It was in 2015 that Fuchs came to Leicester City on a free transfer from Schalke. In the first season itself, he went on to win the Premier League title and ensured his deal was extended by a further year, into 2016. His decision to leave Leicester City has been more personal than professional.
Young father first, the player next
As a young father, Fuchs is missing his growing children in New York and vows that Facetime cannot make up for his absence there. Fuchs said that “It was already a big decision extending my contract one more year, but it was a good thing for the family. I’ve enjoyed my time in Leicester, I’ve had the biggest success here, and I love the club.”
However, his fan has no reason to despair as the defender added that, “It’s never going to be the case I’m completely done; I love the club, the city and appreciate the people. Maybe I want to build a bit of my own legacy here.”
Fuchs also rose in support of the beleaguered French coach of The Foxes. Fuchs urged the team to give Puel more time, despite Foxes losses. Peul had steered Monaco to win Ligue 1, and it was a matter of time before The Foxes too would do, believes Fuchs.
Commenting on the nature of the game, the American footballers lamented that the game sought more in the short term. The lack of consistency and constant changes will take a toll, the star player shared.
Attributes rise to Premier League
Fuchs will now work with Fox Soccer Academy to groom the next generation players. He credited his spectacular rise to the Premier League champion on hard work. He admitted that he was simply categorized as a player not ‘good enough, ‘and it was a tremendous achievement for him to have scaled the heights of Premier League Championships. He wished that by being part of the Fox Academy, he would be able to play a worthy role in identifying and grooming young players.
He said that in his early days he was academies from Bundesliga teams, but did not get sufficient feedback. Thus, it is very important for him, at Fox Academy, to be part of the bigger dream and encourage young children playing football. Fuchs has been passionate about associating with youngsters, so as to be the difference in making a child with great potential scale new heights.
With his exit from Leicester City, the club will have to find a quick replacement. As star defender, Fuchs played crucial roles in winning tight matches for his club. There is speculation that, on his return to New York, he may sign a contract with MLS. The official confirmation is awaited.
